Sri Lankan Performance Dazzles the Dallas Asian Festival

This year's Dallas Asian Festival was a colorful event featuring scores of cultural performances by many talented members of the North Texas Asian communities. The event free to the public was organized by the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce (GDAACC) and co-sponsored by the Multi Ethnic Education and Economic Development Center (MEED). The Sri Lankan American community in the area participated in the event with multiple performances of traditional dance and music. A booth featuring Sri Lankan traditional paintings and garments by Geethika Kuruppu provided visitors a window to the rich culture and traditions of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan perfformance included Gajag netuma, a Kandyan dance by Asitha Silva and a traditional drum sequence by Sri Lankan graduate students from the University of Texas at Arlington. Special thanks goes to Mr. Shan Halamba for organizting the Sri Lankan participation of this event.
